Hi! I’m Dr. Anshika Gupta, your functional medical and metabolic health expert

A
s a conventionally trained doctor, I spent years treating patients with a wide array of health issues — from diabetes and hypertension to autoimmune conditions and unexplained fatigue. I diligently followed standard protocols, prescribed medications, and performed routine check-ups. But despite everything, I couldn’t shake the feeling that something was missing in the way we approached healthcare. Day after day, I watched patients return with the same problems, their health barely improving or even worsening.

It was disheartening. I saw people doing everything we asked — taking their pills, making lifestyle changes — yet not getting better. Many were caught in a cycle of symptom management without true healing. Perhaps even more troubling were the times when the side effects of the medications were worse than the illness itself. I began to question whether simply managing disease was enough. Were we truly helping people thrive? Or just helping them cope?

I knew there had to be a better way to practice medicine — one that didn’t just treat the disease, but treated the person as a whole. A way to focus on wellness rather than illness, to prioritize prevention over prescriptions, and to deeply understand each patient’s story, not just their symptoms.

Discovering functional medicine was a turning point in both my professional and personal life. It felt like coming home — an approach that finally aligned with my belief that healing requires more than just medication. It’s about understanding the root cause of illness, the intricate connections between lifestyle, environment, mindset, and biology. Over the years, I’ve witnessed remarkable transformations in my patients, many of whom had nearly given up hope. Just by shifting focus from symptoms to systems, from isolated problems to whole-body solutions, we’ve been able to create lasting changes.

“It’s more important to know what kind of a person has the disease, than what kind of a disease a person has.”

That quote has stayed with me, because it captures the heart of what I strive for every day. Functional medicine isn’t just a different way to practice — it’s a more compassionate, personalized, and powerful one. It empowers patients, honors their individuality, and offers hope where conventional methods often fall short.

To all my patients — past, present, and future: thank you for inspiring me, for trusting in this process, and for reminding me every single day why I chose this path. Here’s to many more years of learning, growing, and healing together.
